The War Room (now known as The Warriors of Time Club) has been the place where several clubs have gotten together over the years to play various table-top games. And now it is in danger…
A crack in the foundation is flooding the club and causing terrible water damage… in order to help pay for repairs we are hoping gamers will come together to do what we do best: game!
The Save the Basement tournament will be a 4 game 40k and Fantasy event (1750 for 40k and 2250 for Fantasy) held at the Strathern United Church (8510 95 Avenue Northwest) in Edmonton, opening at 9am and running until 10pm on September 10th.
The cost to enter is $40, and although meals are not provided, there will be trophies for Best General/Sportsman/Painted for both systems as well as special bonus prize. The most number of entries we can have is 50.
To sign up all you need to do is email me at Malorian99@hotmail.com or say you are coming on either the Facebook event (does not exist at this time) or the Warroom page. I will then arrange payment and direct you to the full tournament package.
So come out for a good cause, or if nothing else come out for some great games and a good time.

Event details:
1750 points for 40k 2250 points for Fantasy
Schedule: Open at 8:30 Game 1 9:30-12:00 Lunch Game 2 1:00-3:30 Game 3 3:45-6:15 Supper Game 4* 7:00-9:30 Cleanup and awards done by 10:00
*Note that game 4 is optional, and if you have other arrangements it is understandable if you need to leave early (there will be fill-ins as needed). However you will be out of the running for awards.
Special characters are allowed The only armies allowed are GW supported armies (if the army isn't listed on their website you're out of luck) The army must be painted (3 colors) and based. You are responsible to bring 2 objective markers.
There will be a package for fantasy and for 40k that will list out the possible objectives and deployment types.
Summary of play: (I used this when I did my Spring to Battle tournament) 1. Roll for deployment type. 2. Roll to decide who gets which deployment zone. 3. Place objective markers. 4. Roll for objectives and discuss them with your opponent. 5. Deploy armies. 6. Play.
Scoring:
Once you have completed your game: •Add up your victory points •Determine how many of your objectives you accomplished •If you accomplished both objectives then multiply your victory points by 2, by 1.5 if you accomplished only 1 objective, or by 1 if you accomplished none of your objectives. •Write your score in the tally sheet and report it to the tournament organizer. •Once you are done all your games then add up all the scores to get your final score and hand it in to the tournament organizer.
There will be a trophy for Best General (most victory points at the end of the event), Best Painted (as determined by the tournament team), Best Sportsmen (as vote on by the players), plus a bonus prize.

Fantasy Missions:
Each player rolls 2D6 and is assigned the objective that matches the list below:
2. Assassinate*: • Objective 1: Destroy the enemy general. • Objective 2: You must control any one of the enemy objective markers.
3. Bridgehead*: • Objective 1: You must control any one of your own objective markers. • Objective 2: You must control any one of the enemy objective markers.
4. Finish Them!: • Objective 1: You must reduce all enemy units to under 50% excluding characters. • Objective 2: You must control any one of your own objective markers. • Special rule: Preliminary bombardment- Roll a D6 for each enemy unit (not characters) before play starts. On a 6 the unit takes D6 wounds as per shooting with no saves allowed. Take panic tests as needed.
5. Foothold*: • Objective 1/2: You must control both enemy objective markers.
6. Hold Out: • Objective 1/2: You must control both of your own objective markers.
7. Hold The Line: • Objective 1: You must have more friendly units than enemy units in your deployment zone at the end of the game. • Objective 2: You must control any one of your own objective markers.
8. Lightning Raid*: • Objective 1: You must have two units above 50% in the enemy deployment zone at the end of the game. • Objective 2: You must control any one of the enemy objective markers.
9. Rescue*: • Objective 1: You must ‘rescue’ one enemy objective marker by having a non-flying unit spend one entire movement phase in base to base with it. • Objective 2: You must control any one of your own objective markers.
10. Sabotage*: • Objective 1/2: You must ‘destroy’ both enemy objective markers by having a non-flying unit get into base to base with it and remain there until the end of their combat phase in their next turn.
11. The Grind: • Objective 1/2: You must control any two objective markers at the end of the game.
12. Unconventional Warfare*: • Objective 1/2: You must control two randomly determined objective markers at the end of the game. At the end of the game determine which they were by assigning each objective marker a number between 1-4 and then roll two dice. On a 5 or 6 you get to decide which objective marker you need to control. If you get the same objective twice then it is both objective points, however you can’t double up in this way when you roll a 5 or 6.
Notes: Those marked with * mean that dwarf players may increase their deployment zones by 6 inches.
Objectives marked ‘1/2’ are basically two objectives. One for each described objective marker.
Accomplishing Objectives:
Unless otherwise stated, to accomplish an objective you must: •Have a unit with 1 rank or more (5 models for skirmishers) and at least half its models within 6 inches of the objective marker to hold it. •If both players contest an objective marker by fulfilling the above requirements then it stays contested (neither player hold it). •Determining if an objective is accomplished or not is done at the end of the game and not during the ebb and flow of the battle.

Does the army need to be painted? Or will we just lose points if it isn't fully painted?

It needs to have 3 colors.
I don't care if that means a base coat, metal on the weapons, and eyes dotted, but it has to be at least that far.

So I got the trophies ordered.
They are going to be like the Battle of the Beast ones where the 'trophy' is a detachable model that you can use in your games.

I had to think long and hard last night, and came VERY close to cancelling the tournament.
I'm very disappointed at the lack of people signing up so far, but in the end I'm going to hope we pull together.

I want to help. But i'm still stuck in 7th edition for warhammer and 4th for 40k.
Could I show up on the tournament day as a spectator and donate $40?

Might as well play if you're going to do that I wouldn't suggest fantasy since the jump from 7th to 8th is HUGE, but as long as you take a fair amount of anti-tank you'll do just fine going from 4th to 5th 40k. Barring that, I'm not going to say no to donations

Yea, I went to GW today and glanced through the rulebooks. Just insane amount of changes. The magic system alone sheesh.
May just stop by and donate. Or pop by on day the club is open and do it then if something major comes up and I cannot make it.
