I really would like to see one winner come out in the end. One way you could do this is based on a simple strength of schedule tie breaker: If players are tied, add up the total points each of their opponents earned over the tournament. That way, the one that won against better performing opponents had a harder fight for their wins, and thus did better. Please don't make scenarios that are so harsh on Platoons next time, or I'll just bring 6x mechvets

Here's a thought: release ALL of the missions before the tournament so that you can build your list to deal with them.
Then no mission would be unfair since everyone had an even chance to adapt to them.
Eh?

I like not knowing what to expect, it makes for better "Generalship", if you release the missions before hand, everyone will make the hardest lists that work for those missions. Which is ok if everyone agrees, but benefits people that have larger armies to draw from.
I plan on bringing a "fun" themed list next time, but if I know I'll be facing optimized lists (more than usual) then I might as well bring as hard a list as I can...
Tie breakers are hard, most other "events" that have a tie would come down to if the top two played each other (if they did, the winner is whoever won) or else you'd need to start adding in painting and/or sportsmanship and/or comp scores.
If you release the missions ahead of time then I'd strongly recommend comp scores.

Fair enough. Guess I'll just have to be more careful then to make them fair

Not all troops are built even (one slot in the FOC per troop is not a standard).

Brian, don't get me wrong, I think the missions you made up this time were much more "Fair" than the last event (not that they were bad).
If you want to choose between "Fair" and "fun" choose fun. 40K as a game isn't even close to balanced or fair. And it's easier to make fun (for the majority anyways, no one will ever be 100% happy).
Considering it's a "fun" event, make fun and whacky missions. If someone wants to play Hardboyz that's in August. ;-)

Nah, these missions were way more balanced than the 'Ard Boyz ones, no joke.

I rather liked the missions. I think it was fair and fun.. I'm definitely going to try to update my list but am debating on the Iyanden theme for my list lol
I look forward to the next tourney, but will need to see if I can find time to attend...

Got the missions finalized today. Here is an example:
Game 1: Hidden Agenda
As your army meets an enemy force you have no idea what they are after. They might be trying to knock out your transports to slow you down, they might be trying to bypass you and take a bastion in your rear, or they might actually be trying to kill the general (you! *gulp*). The only thing that keeps the insanity of wondering away is the fact that you know they are wondering the same thing about you.
Before deployment secretly match the objectives below to units in your army with no particular unit being used more than once, once that is done roll off for picking sides. The winner picks which side they want and deploys their entire starting force within 18 inches of the long board edge. The other player then does the same. Then roll of for infiltrators. On a 2+ the player that deployed first gets the first turn. The game will last 6 turns.
Objectives: -The chosen unit must survive the game:__________ -The chosen unit must NOT survive the game:__________ -The chosen unit must not shoot nor be shot at during the game:__________ -The chosen unit must score 2 kill points:__________ -The chosen unit must end the game in the opponent’s deployment zone:__________

So right now I think we only have 4 people: Paul, Tim, Tino, David. Spread the word people. Lets have another good turn out, because the more people that come out the better the prize

How many people are you looking for and what's your view on unpainted models? I'd like to play and get in games with more than just my friends but I won't be able to have that all painted in time....

Right now only 6 people are signed up so we have room for 6 more.
Models don't have to be painted at all, but if they don't all have at least 3 colors you take a 5 point hit. So unless you were planning to win it doesn't matter, and then again at the last tournament a guy with an unpainted army tied for first even with the 5 point hit.

So now with OotB ou of the way I'm looking to get this one filled in.
Looks like we will be missing a few due to a tournament in cow-town, but as is we should have 8 at least.

For those of you interested in playing games after the tourney, the GGG club will be open after that and we would be more than happy to have you. 5 dollars a person is the entry fee, see you there!
