Hi all. I am curious what size of magnets do you use in in your models. I have some 1/4" dia ones, but they seem a little too large for marines (except termies) and Tau. I know Lee Valley has the 1/8 rod magnets, but does anyone use them?

i Use both. the rods you can snap in half with pliers and then sink half into each side of the model. really good with models arms to swap out the weapons.

Do you clip them or literally "snap" them apart?

I use 1/8" by 1/16" disc magnets. These fit perfectly into shoulder sockets for Marines and Guard. I only use 1/4" for vehicles. I buy online, but the postage has increased in the last while.

I used to go to gaussboys.com, when they had a postage price of around 65 cents US. But now their postage is $10 minimum for international! I've looked around several places for replacements: www.kjmagnetics.com/www.powermagnetstore.comand also many places on eBay. For most of these, the prices are very good, quite a bit lower than what you'd find in the city, but the shipping is really annoying. K&J magnetics also has a shipping of around $9. Power magnets is better, with shipping to N. America at 2 pounds. But to make it worth it, you have to buy in big batches. Maybe organize a group together.
