Ok, so we've known this for a while, but now they are just keeping up the trend.
A while back (when Canada and USA joined together) they stopped running GW hosted tournaments, but they started running more mini in store tournaments (pay 15 bucks and this goes into a pot for the winners), but now it looks like they are not going to do these either!
Stupid business practice aside, I think this might be a good thing to move in on. If we start running the mini tournaments then maybe we can start bringing in a lot more players.
I've actually been tempted to start up my own gaming day (1 day a month) that would just be tournaments, but at the same time I don't want to have too much compitition between the gaming days.
What are people's thoughts on this issue?

Well for one thing, we need someone to step up and start running 40K events. Seems everyone that was running them have been "distracted" with other things.

Do you mean going to GW stores and running a mini tourney in there? or at another venue?

For a while there, we had a really nice tournament scene going on. Between Onslaught and Fracas, we had a few great tournaments that were well spread-out and well supported.
Then, we have the B.S. that both Mark and Ward (the organizers of these tournaments) get let go, and so those are down the drain.
I'm not sure what is going on at the West Edmonton Mall store, but I think that, up until recently, the Kingsway store has been doing a good job of putting on some interesting singles and doubles tournaments that have partially worked to fill the gaps. I have caught word, however, that they will no longer be holding any of these tournaments.
That means that, as far as I'm aware, the Out of the Basement tournament is the only really good large-scale tournament that occurs in Edmonton all year.
I'm just frustrated with how it seems like GW is giving the players the middle finger and withdrawing support after all of us have spent so much money and time on the hobby.
What ever happened to those Throne of Skulls tournaments that were supposed to be popping up?

Do you mean going to GW stores and running a mini tourney in there? or at another venue? The idea would be to start running them at the war room and then when it gets big enough then go to another venue. Still waiting to hear if people would support a seperate gaming day (for example it would be the first saturday of each month) that would be only tournaments. It would alternate between 40k, fantasy, 40 doubles, and fantasy doubles. It would cost me $100 to rent the war room so I figure that if I charge $10 and get 10 people then I break even. If I charged more ($15) then I could offer the extra to the winner(s) as a prize. Thoughts on that?

I'ld be up for the fantasy days, and probably my boys as well. As long as we know the schedule in advance we could probably make most of them.

If you switched it up like that i would be interested, fantasy every 2 months would be good.
15 bucks is a reasonable place to start.
I, for one, would be willing to let you pocket the extra if you keep giving out those neat trophies.

I'll support the 40K events (don't play fantasy). Can't guarantee I'll be at everyone one (life sometimes gets in the way), but I can promote the events to my gaming group!
