Hello and welcome to the Battle Barn!
The Battle Barn is all about one thing: Games!!! Everytime you join ys you know you will be getting lots of them because every since Battle Barn day is a tournament day!
These are the tournaments that are held every year:
-4 fantasy tournaments (3 games at 2500)
-1 major fantasy tournament (4 games at 3000)
-4 40k tournaments (3 games at 2000)
-1 major 40k tournament (4 games at 2500)
And it flows like this:
-Fantasy tournament
-40k tournament
-Fantasy tournament
-40k tournament
-Fantasy Major tournament
-40k tournament
-Fantasy tournament
-40k tournament
-Fantasy tournament
-40k major tournament
The months I plan to skip are March and December due to Spring Break and Christmas Holidays.
As far as payment goes, it costs $15 if you sign up in advance and $20 at the door, and in the regular tournaments $100 will first be taken out (for the rental cost) and then the rest will be going towards the winner.
The major tournaments will cost $20 if you sign up in advance and $25 at the door, and there will be my patented trophies. One for best sportsman, one for winner overall, and one for best painted.
There are only 12 spots available so make sure to sign up quick.
Those that sign up but don't show up without 48 hour notice will go into my 'black book' and in future tournaments I would require payment along with the signup (before the tournament).
All games follow the same scoring system:
-each game will have 5 objectives (like kill the enemy general/HQ) that translate into a simple yes or no at the end of the game (so no time wasted counting up VPs in most cases)
-each game will also have up to 3 points for 'enjoyment' (0 for a horrible game, 1 for you didn't have fun, 2 for a fun game, and 3 for an extremely fun game)
-At the end of the tournament fully painted* armies gain an extra 5 points. (*painted means 3 colors)
-In major events you also vote for the best sportsmen after your last game.
-In the event of a tie the player, first of all if one player beat those tied then that person will be the winner, and if that doesn't settle it then it will come down to objectives scored against.
Events will be posted here and on the calender.

Note that I remove the prize for best sportmen from the regular tournaments. This is because when I did the math the prize wasn't realy worth it if you split it. So now all the spoils go to the winner  |

Due to the high number of drop outs I am now forced to have to ask for money before hand.
Money for the event can be sent via paypal to sinn.dave@gmail.com or we can meet in person.
This won't start for the first 40k one as it wouldn't be fair, but all events after this will be based on this.

To be honest it shouldn't come up often.
I match people up by their points so the top people will be matched up in the last game anyway which will fufill the first requirement. So this will be just for the oddball cases.
The other option we could go with is the person that allowed the fewest objectives to be scored against him, and that would be more fair. Just less fun.
Would people rather we did that instead?

On the grey knight topic, the GK lists that are the toughest (at least the net lists) tend to go really cheap on the characters, so I don't think that this would be a huge benefit to GK. |

why not use a 2x2 area with a lot of cover, so the weak heroes can stand some what of a chance to the super hard hitters, and gives both sides some gun fire at each other>

Is this really a huge concern? I thought people were in this hobby for fun... Most are, but we're also discussing tournaments and the possible win/loss of an event solely based on what kind of character you have in your list. It wouldn't be much "fun" to lose an entire event because someone has a super character and you don't. And while this isn't a Grey Knight thread, most of the net lists are garbage. They have much much more power lists than what I've traditional seen online... but that can be discussed in another thread. Given ties should be rare (even though not counting painting, 3 people tied at the last event) we really should have a system in place. Not sure what's "Fair" if we rule out sportsmanship and painting scores... |

I dont like the champion arena of death. Having the least amount of objectives scored against is way better.

The arena of death could be a fun option, it just has to be more fair.
My suggestion:
1. If the people that tied for first have played, whomever won that game is declared the winner.
2. If they haven't played off, then a quick 1000 point game is played (kill points or victory points) to decide the winner. The 1000 points must come from your standard army list and maintain the force org.
Obviously #2 is a variation of the Area of Death, but balanced. And shouldn't take too long to play. And everyone can be prepared for it before hand.
The problem with just characters is that I might have a 300 point character and you have a 100 point character, guess who's probably going to win... this way the battle is even.
Of course that might put too much of time strain so objects scored against could work also.
Although I'd like to see painting scores decide the winner of a tie. That would encourage everyone to have fully painted armies. And everyone wins then!

Having your army not painted already gives you a huge disadvantage. You want to make it even more so?
I think objectives against is the best solution to make it easy.

That would be more fair Paul, but I'm justb worried how long it would take just for people to make their list.
If we introduced an actual score for painting it could help more, but as is it's almost impossible for a non-painted army to tie for first (even though David already proved it not impossible).
Another way to go is just to do nothing. If it is a tie then it's a tie.

I believe it's disrespectful to play with unpainted armies. An unpainted army distracts from the game and caters to power gamers. So yes, I if they are allowed at all, then they should take a major hit. There is always Hard Boyz for people that want to play without painted armies... Brian, if you stated everyone needed a 1000 point list (from their main list) in the case of a draw then everyone should have one ready. Of course this would be the most time consuming option, and thus probably not "reasonable". The other option is to change the points for things. Increase the overall points so that there are bigger spreads, that should also reduce chances of ties. No matter what is decided as long as the events remain FUN and FRIENDLY then it doesn't really matter. Tie or not. |

That's easy to say when you play mech BA. I'll admit that it's nicer to have painting armies, but I wouldn't say that using non-painted armies is "disrespectful."
I'm mostly speaking from a Fantasy reference frame, where my army has 300+ models and not 30.

Well have your last game depend on as the tie breaker is'int fair ether, what if you won both previous games with 5s and get 1 on the last and the opponent 3 in both his and scored a 5 on you, that just makes less of an effort to want to win the first few games, but im all for the high-er points values.
